About us...

Positive Connections, formed as the Topeka AIDS Project in 1985, is Kansas' oldest HIV/AIDS service organization.

Our Mission

Positive Connections is a community based organization that advocates for people living in Northeast Kansas and provides comprehensive services to individuals who are impacted by HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and Hepatitis C.

Our Vision

A sexually educated and healthy community.

Our History

Picture
Positive Connections was formed as the Topeka AIDS Project by a group of volunteers in 1985. The state’s first and most progressive AIDS agency, the organization was incorporated in 1986 and earned 501(c)(3) status in 1987. In 2011, we changed our name to reflect a wider focus and service region, and to project an image less steeped in stigma to make our clients more comfortable.

Positive Connections provides comprehensive medical case management and prevention services to 17 counties in Northeast Kansas, including Shawnee County and Riley County. Our Medical Case Managers serve nearly 200 clients living with HIV by providing assistance and advocacy to help them communicate with their doctors, obtain medication, and adhere to treatment regimens. Our prevention services include rapid HIV testing, sexual health education programs, outreach to high-risk populations, and condom distribution.
